Member of the Month – Miriam
Congratulations to the CrossFit Oxygen pocket-rocket! Miriam has been such a consistent member since joining us and it’s been an absolute pleasure seeing her take on new challenges and learning so many different movements in a short amount of time. Her commitment to giving everything a shot is admirable, and her smile just brings wonderful vibes into the gym. Making the transition from evening to morning classes is never an easy one, and she’s handled the task like an absolute champion. We’re so happy she’s a part of our community!
If you had to say something to someone looking to try CF for the first time, what would it be?
I would tell them how positive my experience has been. I was a bit nervous about trying CF for the first time, but it’s been such a supportive and fun environment. I would really recommend the “on-ramp” program as a great starting point.
How did you get started with CrossFit?
I actually knew nothing about CrossFit and came across it by searching on Google. I was looking for a fitness routine that would fit in with my life, be close to home and also keep me motivated.
How do you find/make time to get your workouts in?
The 6AM classes have been a revelation – I never thought I was an early morning workout person, but since trying them out I have realised how good I feel for the rest of the day and I still manage to get to work on time.
What is one fun fact about you that we may not know yet?
I was born in Florence and am planning a trip back to Italy next summer!
In your opinion, what is the biggest benefit of exercising?
There are so many obvious physical benefits, but I know that when I exercise regularly I just feel so much better within myself.
How has being a member at CrossFit Oxygen helped you on your fitness journey?
It’s given me structure and motivation. Fitness goals are personal and I really appreciate that when I attend a CF class, there are always options to suit me.
What is your favourite movement/type of workout?
I like the workouts that get me moving and the circuits that let you try out different movements.
What is your least favourite movement/ type of workout?
I still can’t remember all the names, but any of the movements where you have to lift the barbell over your head! I always feel a bit nervous with those.
What is your biggest CrossFit accomplishment so far?
Getting to 3 workouts a week. I didn’t think I could fit it in when I started but I’ve shown myself that I can.
What motivates and inspires you?
The reason I didn’t go for a standard gym membership is because I know that I am motivated by the energy of being around others. People inspire me all the time. Everyone has a story and has had to overcome something in their life. Turning up to life each day and connecting with life is inspiring in itself.
