Member of the Month – Neil

Congratulations, Neil for becoming our June Member of the Month. Neils dedication to the push up challenge, positive attitude and eagerness to get right back into training post lockdown has earned him the title.

If you had to say something to someone looking to try CF for the first time, what would it be?

Crossfit really is for anyone, try it, it’s fun and you’ll meet some great like-minded people to share your journey.

How did you get started with CrossFit?

I was after something different from my normal HIIT type workouts in local gyms.  When I moved to Bayswater North I was open to something new and needed to find a new local place to work out.   I’d watched a few Crossfit Documentaries on Netflix to understand more about what the Crossfit world was all about.   Following my first meeting with Andrew, the seed was planted and my desire to try Crossfit was born.  Despite that I re-joined another gym whilst following CF Oxygen on FB knowing deep down I’d return.   Post-Covid Lockdowns and when my gym membership expired I then joined and never looked back.

How do you find/make time to get your workouts in?

I always try to aim for minimum 3 workouts per week.  They say be selfish and make time for your self and I believe that is so important.

What is one fun fact about you that we may not know yet?

I enjoy the thrill of skydiving despite hating heights… I have completed 2 tandem jumps the last one January this year from 15,000 feet.

In your opinion, what is the biggest benefit of exercising?

Mental Health is the key winner when exercising.  Yes, you get all the other fitness benefits and those of looking better, but these are all the ingredients of feeling Mentally better in yourself.

How has being a member at CrossFit Oxygen helped you on your fitness journey?

Well quite simply I just love being there, and when that happens you turn up.  You hear the term Crossfit family so much, but never a true word said.  When you enjoy where you workout, and you have a room full of people all motivating and pushing you it literally becomes a pleasure.

What is your favourite movement/type of workout?

Deadlift.

What is your least favourite movement/ type of workout?

I’ve genuinely loved every workout although i think i might be subconsciously late to most class’ to avoid the 400m warm-up runs.

What is your biggest CrossFit accomplishment so far?

Well I have 2… I can now rope climb plus I completed 7 double unders just this week.

What motivates and inspires you?

The coaches inspire me to do my best and keep pushing myself.  My motivation is driven by my aim to look and feel my very best,  not just for me but for my kids and my partner.  I have so much to learn in Crossfit and every time I turn up for a class I’m inspired by all those around me.
