Member of the Month – Dwayne
Congratulations Dwayne! Dwayne has taken huge steps towards improving his health and fitness. Dwayne made a commitment to changing his diet to reach his personal goals. Behind the scenes he has been focused on his nutrition and mixing in a weekly training session or two. His dedication has been nothing but inspiring. Keep up the great work!
If you had to say something to someone looking to try CF for the first time, what would it be?
Just get in there and try it! I was really unsure about whether I could do it at first. I thought it was just for people who were already super fit, but everything can be scaled to your skill and fitness level and the coaches and community are so supportive.
How did you get started with CrossFit?
My wife booked us a free trial and dragged me into the car. I was so unsure but everyone made us feel so welcome I haven’t looked back in almost 3 years.
How do you find/make time to get your workouts in?
The most effective way for me is to book workout time into my calendar. Then it’s just like any other non-negotiable appointment, when the notification goes off it’s time to get it done!
What is one fun fact about you that we may not know yet?
When I was 4 years old I was “Mr Tiny Tot” for 1988, taking over the crown from Shane Jenek, who you might know recognise as Courtney Act from Ru Paul’s Drag Race. Obviously that did far more for Courtney’s career than mine!
Edit: Mum tells me I was actually in mr tiny tot 1987 as well so i must have been beat by courtney act
In your opinion, what is the biggest benefit of exercising?
Feel good about my self. Always its good feeling to see how much I have progress both mentally and physically. Most of the things I was scared to do before, I am able to do after I started proper training.
How has being a member at CrossFit Oxygen helped you on your fitness journey?
1,000,000% the community. Everyone is so supportive inside and outside the box. Set a new PR? Heck yeah! Had a win in your personal life? Yeeeah buddy! Having a bad day? They’re there with a kind word or a great meme. CrossFit just seems to attract the shining examples of humanity.
What is your favourite movement/type of workout?
Isabel and Grace, pretty much anything oly lifting.
What is your least favourite movement/ type of workout?
Running! I’m definitely built for comfort, not speed!
What is your biggest CrossFit accomplishment so far?
Finally hitting a 65kg clean and jerk PR. I got so close one morning and new I could get it, so I came back in the arvo and nailed it. Never in my life have I felt so motivated to workout.
What motivates and inspires you?
Every day I try to be a little bit better than I was the day before. Some days that works better than others hahaha
