If you had to say something to someone looking to try CF for the first time, what would it be?
I would tell them that it is absolutely amazing no matter what fitness level they are at.
Sometimes I think people just automatically assume you have to be a fitness freak to do CF, and that’s just not the case. It can literally be for anybody.
How did you get started with CrossFit?
I was in High school when CrossFit started to become really popular and was the latest fitness trend. At the time, one of my best friends had just finished watching a documentary on CF and we were talking about how awesome it would be to be as fit as the athletes on the doco. We decided to go do a trial at one of our local CF gyms and I fell in love with it straight away.
How do you find/make time to get your workouts in?
I think it’s just purely based on commitment and routine for me. I know that if didn’t purposely set out time each week for the workouts, I would never find the time. The enjoyment of doing the workouts and feeling and seeing my progress also really motivated me to keep going each week.
What is one fun fact about you that we may not know yet?
I have been doing CF for a little while now, but I actually spent most of my life doing Cheerleading and dancing.
In your opinion, what is the biggest benefit of exercising?
For me, its hugely about mental health. I find that while working out, anything that has been playing on my mind that day disappears, and I can just focus on the movements. It’s such a good way to take a productive break from a busy life, on top of improving your overall health which further helps me mentally. I find when I’m feeling fit and healthy, so is my mind.
How has being a member at CrossFit Oxygen helped you on your fitness journey?
I had an unintentional 12month break from CF when I moved to Melbourne from North East Victoria. During this time my health and fitness levels dropped majorly, and I knew that I needed to do something about it to start feeling better again, which is when I found CF Oxygen. CF helped me get back on track with my fitness goals but actually gave me motivation to take better care of myself.
What is your favourite movement/type of workout?
I love the weights training aspect of CF as its always been a strength of mine. I would probably choose back squats as my favourite movement.
What is your least favourite movement/ type of workout?
The cardio aspect of the workouts is probably my least favourite, mainly because it’s one of my weaknesses. I have never really enjoyed running, although lately I have been noticing a big improvement in this area.
What is your biggest CrossFit accomplishment so far?
For me, it’s been the continued commitment I have made to training each week even on the days I might not feel motivated to. I have had a lot going on (as have most people at the moment), and I could have easily made excuses and said it was all too hard. On a smaller scale, I’m finally getting my HSPU back and I’m very excited about it!
What motivates and inspires you?
Other than my own health and wellness goals, I have a couple of athletes that I follow on social media that I look up to in terms of what is possible when you commit to CF training. I use them as inspiration on how strong and fit I could become if I keep working towards my goals.
