Member of the Month – Georgi

Congratulations Georgi, you have earned the title of member of the month of September! You are doing an amazing job, you are always consistent with your training, effort and attitude, encouraging others and engraining yourself in our community.

If you had to say something to someone looking to try CF for the first time, what would it be?

You don’t have to be super fit, everything can be scaled! it’s not just about getting a workout, it’s about learning, improving and creating the best you, just give it a go!

How did you get started with CrossFit?

An old gym/PT trainer was opening Crossfit South Wharf and told me to come and try it! Never looked back.

How do you find/make time to get your workouts in?

My job can derail my day quickly, as can my toddler so working out at night was unpredictable. I knew I had more control over a morning workout so started doing 6 am classes. It is hard at first but once in the habit, it’s pretty easy.

What is one fun fact about you that we may not know yet?

I was a volunteer with SES for about 8 years and got lots of training and skills but still have a truck licence as a result. I also spent time volunteering with SES during the Black Sat fires and was awarded a National Emergency Service medal for my service.

In your opinion, what is the biggest benefit of exercising?

Mental release! this is massive for me and helps manage my stress and anxiety.

How has being a member at CrossFit Oxygen helped you on your fitness journey?

The coaches and members have kept me so focused during lockdown! They have also taught me new ways of doing things, especially while I was doing rehab on my knee post-surgery in April.

What is your favourite movement/type of workout?

Deadlifts for sure! However, am keen to get better at gymnastics movements too as I do enjoy the challenge.

What is your least favourite movement/ type of workout?

Thrusters and any long-distance running!

What is your biggest CrossFit accomplishment so far?

Pretty proud of hitting a 125KG deadlift recently… however getting some pistols away in the open in 2019 or maybe it was 2020 was pretty magical. Not sure my knee would permit it these days, but let’s hope one day!

What motivates and inspires you?

I’m pretty competitive, so other people training is generally enough to push me, but am always looking to improve and get the reward from hitting goals. However overall just being the best version of myself and feeling great is a good motivator.
