If you had to say something to someone looking to try CF for the first time, what would it be?

For me, it’s what I love in team sports and gym training combined. The variety of movements can be a little daunting at first but quickly becomes addictive after 6-8 weeks as you see and feel the growth. Don’t overthink it just give it a try. Your body and mind will love you for it.

How did you get started with CrossFit?

I’d attempted to go to the gym, F45, bike riding on/off for the last decade with little short or mid-term success. One day while I was googling local gyms on the couch I came across CFo2, enquired and signed up the next day. The best impulse decision ever.

How do you find/make time to get your workouts in?

With a young family, a history of making excuses and plenty of work/life changes occurring this is the no#1 challenge. Having experienced the mental and physical benefits of CF it’s really become a non-negotiable and something I plan at the start of the week as a statement of intent. I’ve found making that plan and commitment gives me the best chance of following through.

What is one fun fact about you that we may not know yet?

My very talented wife (Kristy) runs a website: https://pocketsquadgirls.com.au/ inspired to make every little girl feel like a superhero with their very own super power. Something that’s very close to my heart.

In your opinion, what is the biggest benefit of exercising?

I love how when I’m exercising for that moment the problems of the world disappear, time slows, focus narrows and it’s just me and my next rep. I love being “in the zone”.

How has being a member at CrossFit Oxygen helped you on your fitness journey?

Without question, the welcoming culture created by Holly, Andrew and Mon and sense of community fostered by the CFo2 Family has been the most important factor to my uptake and engagement with CF. The support and encouragement have been inspirational and the difference in finding something I truly love and deeply engage with.

What is your favourite movement/type of workout?

I love the challenge of weightlifting movements. I find myself compelled to do shadow clean & jerks whenever they appear in sugarWod.

What is your least favourite movement/ type of workout?

I’ve genuinely loved every workout although i think i might be subconsciously late to most class’ to avoid the 400m warm-up runs.

What is your biggest CrossFit accomplishment so far?

Creating the habit and maintaining the discipline amongst a heap of excuses is by far my biggest accomplishment. Enjoying the group and process will take care of the rest with time.

What motivates and inspires you?

Trying to be the very best husband and father to my 4 wonderful kids inspires me to keep learning, growing and being my best self.
