What are the benefits of powerlifting?

Powerlifting is a strength sport where you complete 3 strength movements, the squat, bench press and deadlift. , Participating in powerlifting frequently will allow you to build muscle and burn fat. Powerlifting is incorporated into CrossFit training regularly to build strength. Performing resistance training regularly will increase bone density, strengthening your skeletal system while reducing your risk of injury in other sports and life activities.

What is the difference between weightlifting and powerlifting?

Powerlifting focuses on strength in 3 main lifts, the squat, bench press and deadlift. Usually utilising a lower rep range and a slower tempo of movements during training. Whereas Olympic weightlifting focuses on the snatch, and the clean and jerk. Incorporates aspects of strength, power, speed, and mobility with movements that are very technical and performed at a high tempo, .

How is the specialty program different from completing back squats in the group classes?

The group classes often spend 10 to 15 minutes on a general warm-up, and 10-15 minutes on strength. This often does not leave time for mobility and specific drills to improve glute and hamstring strength or activation. During the powerlifting program, you will learn proper technique, activation exercises and mobility drills specific to you.

Will I be able to do the group class before the powerlifting class?

We recommend you come fresh to each session to get the most out of the drills. Aside from the fact that you will be focusing on your new technique, the powerlifting movements will be very taxing on your Central Nervous System. This means you might feel extra fatigued and hungry after a lifting session.

I am already pretty familiar with the Back Squat and Deadlift, how will this program help me?

You might feel confident with the main 3 movements, however, there is always more to learn. During the powerlifting program, you will learn how to move efficiently making group class workouts feel smoother. You will build strength in your weaker areas helping you to increase your lifts drastically. All while getting in-depth tips that you wouldn’t normally get during a group class.

When will you be running another powerlifting program ?

We run a variety of different programs throughout the year and there is no guarantee when the next one will be. We don’t currently have another one planned, so you better jump on board this one.
